Ras al khaimah is in the northern part of the Persian Gulf. It is in the northern part of the UAE bordering Oman. The emirate has a population of about 250,000 inhabitants. Ras Al Khaimah is one of the United Arab Emirates. It covers an area of 656 square miles (1700 km²).

It is ruled by Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammad al-Qassimi. The city has two main sections Old Ras al Khaimah and Nakheel on either side of the creek which flows through Ras Al Khaimah.

History of Ras al-Khaimah

The city was historically known as Julfar.

In the early 18th century the Qawasim clan (Huwayla tribe) established itself in Ras al Khaimah.

After British occupation (18 December 1819 – July 1821), Sheikh Sultan bin Saqr al-Qasimi signed in 1822 the General Maritime Treaty with Britain, accepting a protectorate keeping the Ottoman Turks out.

Like Ajman, Dubai, Umm al-Qaiwain and Sharjah, its position on the route to India made it important enough to be recognized as a salute state (be it of the lowest class: only 3 guns).

In 1869 Ras al Khaimah became fully independent from Sharjah. However from September 1900 to 7 July 1921 it was re-incorporated into Sharjah, its neighbor; the last governor became its next independent ruler.

On 11 February 1972 Sheikh Saqr bin Muhammad al-Qasimi joined the United Arab Emirates.

Schools: Ras Al Khaimah has been at the forefront where formal school education is concerned. A large number of Government-run schools – primary, elementary and higher secondary are scattered all over Ras Al Khaimah with Arabic as their main medium of instruction.

Transportation in Ras al-Khaimah

Within Ras Al Khaimah: Metered taxis are the main mode of transport within Ras Al Khaimah with fares starting AED 1 (Formerly the fare was negotiable between driver and passenger but all non-metered taxis were phased out by the year 2001).

Buses are also available but only on long-haul routes and they cater mainly to people residing in far-flung towns viz. Sha`am, Rams, Jazeerah-al-Hamra, etc.

Over the past 2 years, Ras Al Khaimah has seen a phenomenal increase in road-traffic especially during evening hours.

With Ras Al Khaimah also being a sought-after weekend getaway destination for people from various parts of the Emirates, traffic has been increasing progressively.

Emirate-to-Emirate: Ras Al Khaimah is well connected to emirates like Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah by taxis which often embark from the taxi-stand located at Jazeerah-al-Hamra. Engaged taxis are available on request.

Cars are available for rent from various Rent-A-Cars at negotiable prices.

Highways: Two free-flowing dual-carriageways link Ras Al Khaimah with the other northern emirates and beyond.

One follows the coast with beautiful beaches on the one side and stretches of desert on the other; the other, new route runs out towards the airport in the direction of Khatt, Fujairah and Dhaid.

Nowadays, The Emirates Highway is being used aplenty by most motorists. The highway traverses the emirates of Umm Al Quwain, Ajman and Sharjah to finally end up in Dubai.

Most travelers would agree that it connects Ras Al Khaimah to Dubai in less than 45 minutes.

Seaport: Saqr Port, located in the industrial area of Khor Khuwair is the Emirate’s main port providing bulk and container services. It has eight deep water berths, each 200m long, is dredged to 12.2m and has two ro-ro ramps plus specialized berths for handling bulk cement and aggregate.

Other services include ship handling, crew changes and 40,000m2 of covered storage together with a vast open storage area. It is also the closest port in the UAE to Bandar Abbas in Iran.

Media License is AED 24500 [US$ 6730]but not including office space. Renewal fee is AED 10000 [US$ 2740].

Commercial / Trading License is AED 19500 [US$ 5360] but not including Office or Warehouse space. Renewal fee is AED 8000 [US$ 2200].

Industrial license is AED 26500 [US$ 7280] but not including warehouse space. Renewal fee is AED 15000 [US$ 4120]. Number of visas will be as per business requirement.

For Industrial License, the initial capital required for a business set-up is AED 200000 [US$ 54950] for a Free Zone LLC and AED 150000 [US$ 41200] for a Free Zone Establishment. For LLC companies, if more than 2 a partner, then AED 100000 [US$ 27470] per new partner is required.

At present, the annual lease rent for land is AED 12/- per sq.mtr. Per year in Al Ghail Industrial Park.

The minimum area available is 5,000 sq.mtr.

Please note that you are allowed to build labor / staff accommodation on your plot.

Also, they have built their own power plant for their clients in Al Ghail Industrial Park.  Land is available in both Free Zone and Non Free Zone.

Please note that they have separate warehouses for Free Zone as well as Non Free Zone. The minimum size of warehouses is 312 sq.mtr. The annual lease rent for warehouse is AED 200/- per sq.mtr. Per year including service charge.

The office space rent at the RAKIA Amenity Centre Office Space is AED 70 per sq.ft. Per year.

If you need any employee visas you need to have a minimum 10 sq mtr office at about AED. 8,000 [US$ 2,200] per annum. This allows you to be eligible for for 4 visas. The 3 year visa costs are around AED. 4,500 [US$ 1,230].

Documents required are completed application form, utility bill, passport copies of partners and bank reference letters of partners.

Our fee for completing the Rak free zone process is AED 10000 [US$ 2740].

Ras al Khaimah (Ras al khayamah literally means “The top of the tent”) is one of the emirates of the United Arab Emirates.

Ras al khaimah is in the northern part of the Persian Gulf.

The eastern part, known as Al Nakheel, houses the Emiri Court, some government departments, markets, Ras Al Khaimah Exhibition Center, hospitals and residential areas housing the majority of the city’s population. A bridge and a network of modern roads link the two parts of the city.

Ras al khaimah formed Ras Al Khaimah Investment Authority under the leadership of H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi the Crown Prince & Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah.

Rak was the last emirate to join uae in 1972, post the formal establishment of the latter as a combination of six emirates in the previous year.
